In House Laboratory Testing

At Paws Animal Hospital, our goal is keeping your pet happy and healthy. Thanks to modern diagnostics and our on-site laboratory, we're able to do just that for sick and injured pets.

We offer in house laboratory testing for baseline blood counts and organ function tests, or infectious disease tests.  Blood and/or urine samples may be collected from your pet, for point-of-care testing, or reference lab tests. Point-of-care tests are those tests that are done on-site in our hospital so as to be able to determine results and make treatment recommendations in the most timely fashion possible.

Reference Laboratory

In other cases, lab samples may need to be sent off to our off-site laboratory (Idexx reference laboratory).  We use the off -site lab when the test cannot be performed with in-hospital lab equipment, or when the test results are not needed urgently, such as wellness bloodwork. Wellness bloodwork testing allows pet owners to be proactive with their veterinary care so that they can help reduce the risk of future illness and catch illnesses early. We recommend wellness bloodwork annually for all pets or anytime your veterinarian detects something unusual during a routine wellness exam that may warrant further exploration. Our reference lab services allow us to further evaluate our patients’ health.
